Newport News – On May 25th, our beloved family member, Vivian Inell Christopher answered her Father’s call and joined Him and her family in Glory.
Born in Elizabeth City County, VA in 1933, Vivian attended school in Newport News and later retired from Riverside Rehabilitation Institute. She was known for telling others she retired from CSX Railroad along with her husband. Vivian was a faithful member of Emmanuel Grace Baptist Church in Hampton and was a former member of Little Zion Baptist Church in Hampton.
Vivian was known for bringing her family together and was a true matriarch. She loved spending time with her grand and great grandchildren and at times was a surrogate mother to both. She had a passion for reading, a love for arts and crafts and a skill for crossword puzzles. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Vivian was preceded in death by her husband, Charles T. Christopher; parents, George and Rosetta Williams; brothers, Lawrence Williams and Alvin Williams; sister, Barbara Simpson; uncles, Raymond Temple and Burl Marshall; aunts, Lucy Temple and Ruth Gholson; grandchildren, Stacy Pryear and Latiffa Ricks.
Vivian is survived by her seven children, Lydia Stewart of Newport News, Vanessa Carroll (Joseph) of Newport News, Kathy Guion (Robert) of Hampton, Gail Ricks (Larry) of Hampton, Marilyn Pryear (Andra) of Newport News, David Stewart of Newport News, and Tammy Nunes (Randolph) of Newport News; five siblings, one uncle, four sisters-in-law, twenty-one grandchildren, forty great grandchildren and a host of other family members.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 31st, at Emmanuel Grace Baptist Church, 3301 Kecoughtan Road, Hampton, VA, with Pastor John Bradley officiating. Interment will be at 10a.m. on Friday, June 1st, at Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery, Suffolk. The viewing will begin at 1p.m. on Wednesday, May 30th at the funeral home and the family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Mrs. Christopher will lie in state at the church two hours prior to the service on Thursday.
