Reverend A. LaMonte' Wesson transitioned peacefully on Thursday, January 25, 2024, in Newport News, VA. He was 61 years old and was a father and a dear friend to many.

Reverend Wesson, also known as LaMonte, was born on April 30, 1962, in Newport News, VA, to the late Ermie Wesson. Reverend Wesson grew up in a Christian household, raised by his grandmother, Minnie E. Odom. Music and his faith were central to his upbringing. He was an extremely gifted musician and played the Piano, Organ, Drums, Cello, and Violin. Reverend Wesson graduated from Ferguson High School in 1980 and continued his education at Hampton Institute, currently known as Hampton University.

Reverend Wesson worked for Aramark and Mary Immaculate Hospital for several years. He was an exceptional musician and played for various churches and funeral homes, including Second Baptist Church, Antioch Baptist, Gethsemane Baptist, First Baptist Jefferson Park, First Baptist East End, and O.H. Smith and Son Funeral Home, to name a few. Later, he joined Queen Street Baptist Church in Hampton, VA, where he served as the Minister of Music and an Associate Minister.

Reverend Wesson was preceded in death by his wife, Jerilyn R. Whitehead Wesson, whom he married on December 19, 1987. From this union, they have one daughter, Jitann Wesson. He is survived by two brothers: Anthony Wesson (Tracey) and Dakota Wesson of Newport News, VA; one sister: Rhonda Wesson of Newport News, VA; three nieces: Keyana Wesson, Karena Harris, and Deandra McEachern; and four nephews: Terreno Burroughs, Keyon Wesson, Javon Wesson, and Kayden Lawson. Additionally, he had special cousins: Earl and Diane Wilks, and an adoptive family: Rosetta Walker, Linda P. Travis, Simon Hicks III, Claudette Earle, Rev. Vaughn L. Barker, Sr, Rev. Jonathan D. Waldon, and Deacon Melvin M. Moore, and a host of musicians who were very dear to his heart.

Apart from his love for the Lord and music, Reverend Wesson was passionate about giving back. He was a musician for the Shedrick Khan Interdenominational Choir (SKIC) and The Keys of Faith. Reverend Wesson was the Founding Chapter Representative of the Hampton Roads Chapter of the Gospel Music Workshop of America (GMWA) and served as the Minister of Music for the Tidewater Peninsula Baptist Association (TPBA), and Ministers Coalition for several years. Throughout his career, he mentored many individuals, trained numerous voices, and inspired several musicians. He was also an outstanding cook and caterer and thoroughly enjoyed hosting social events. One of his most memorable events was the "Annual Christmas Dessert Party", which many people are sure to remember. Reverend Wesson positively impacted the church and community, and he will truly be missed.

There will be a Music Tribute in the honor of Reverend A. LaMonte' Wesson at 6:30 p.m., Friday, February 2, 2024, at Queen Street Baptist Church Worship Center, 98 N. Armistead Avenue, Hampton, VA 23669.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 3, 2024 at Queen Street Baptist Church Worship Center, 98 N. Armistead Avenue, Hampton, VA 23669. Viewing will be from 3-6 p.m. on Friday, February 2, 2024 at the funeral home and two hours prior to the service at the church on Saturday.  O. H.
