Angela Vivian Williams passed away peacefully on March 30, 2021, after a courageous battle with cancer. "Angie" or "Boots", as she was affectionately called by her siblings, was born May 15, 1956, and was the seventh of eight children born to Cora Ann and Jasper Williams, North Carolina Sharecroppers who moved to Virginia to create a better life for their family. Cora Ann and Jasper and their first five children settled in the Newsome Park section of Newport News.  With the birth of the next three children (a "Baby Son" then two daughters), Angie became the "Knee Baby'' of the family. She is predeceased by her parents, and a brother, Elester Williams.

Angela spent her formative years in Newport News and Hampton enjoying the escapades of a large extended family of faith that loved to cook, eat, and fellowship regularly. The birth of the first grandchild brought untold joy to the family, and the younger girls (often difficult for others to distinguish and simply both called "Angie-Vangie") treated him as a younger brother. The Williams household was a hub for uncles, aunts, cousins and school classmates; and Angela, as one of the younger children would often sit among them closely observing every word and action.

As she grew older, Angie became known for her attention to detail and excellent writing skills. Angela worked during the summer at Langley Air Force Base. For two summers, the patriarch, Jasper drove daily to take the two youngest sisters to their summer jobs, one to Langley and the other to NASA. Angela's good grades in high school earned her a scholarship to Oberlin College, Oberlin, Ohio, where she matriculated for two years. She returned to Virginia and received her Bachelor's degree in Social Work from Virginia Union University. After a brief stint with the Early Interventions program in Norfolk, Angela sought additional credentials and entered the graduate program at Bryn Mawr College in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania. There she received dual degrees: a Masters in Social Work and a Masters in Law and Social Policy.

Angela was an advocate for social justice before it became a popular notion, and the activism of the seventies stimulated her interest and commitment to Civil Rights and the plight of disadvantaged people. She was employed by the Virginia Beach Department of Social Services for many years. Angie had a natural love for children, and touched many lives through her encouragement and advice.

She was active in the National Association of Black Social Workers and enjoyed attending their annual convention. It was there she developed her love for Afro-centric attire and culture. Angela loved shopping and knew how to find the best bargains. When the four sisters set out to shop, they could easily make an entire day of it. Angela also enjoyed traveling, eating out and reading. Angela fellowshipped at Queen Street Baptist Church in Norfolk, Virginia and recommitted her life to Christ during her illness.

Angela leaves to cherish her memory three sisters: Marylene Middlebrooks (Walter), Upper Marlboro, Maryland, Dr. Annie Williams, Chesapeake, Virginia and Evangelyn Williams, Washington, D.C.; three brothers: Jasper Williams (Jennifer), Hampton, Virginia, Robert Williams (Nan), Hampton, Virginia and Dennis Williams (Diane), Upper Marlboro, Maryland; a Special nephew, Romain Williams (Sherri), Laplata, Maryland; nephews: Justin Middlebrooks, Derek Williams, Robert Williams Jr. (Courtney), Konrad Miles, Jason Williams (Rebecca) and Christian Williams; a Special niece, Alexis Miles, Chesapeake, Virginia; nieces: Alicia Williams Owens (Damian), Dr. Lauren Williams and Eboni Bullard (Eli); a great nephew, Brandon Williams and great nieces Deijah Williams, Harper Bullard and Hailey Williams;  uncles: Lawrence Williams and Virgil Williams; an aunt Mary Lou Williams; and a host of cousins.
