Deaconess Barbara Ann Green, 76, departed this life on Monday, January 25, 2021. She transitioned with loved ones consistently surrounding her speaking of the goodness of God and reminiscing on the good times.  She was born on March 11, 1944 in Franklin, Virginia to the late James Cotton and Myrtle Cotton Lewis.  She has been a resident of Hampton, Virginia for 56 years.

In 1963, she married the tall and handsome Watkins Green, Jr. and they built a beautiful life together.  They were married for 51 years and out of that union they had three children.  In the early 1970's, Barbara Ann started her career in the medical field at Dixie Hospital which later changed to Hampton General Hospital and is now Sentara CarePlex Hospital.  After 40+ years of dedicated service, Barbara Ann retired from Sentara CarePlex Hospital as a Unit Secretary.

Deaconess Barbara Ann Green would always bring her style of fashion, sense of humor, excitement and southern charm into any room she entered.  Even as a young girl these attributes exuded - she was most popular in high school, a cheerleader, and a member of the Hayden High Basketball team.   She was an active member of Little Zion Baptist Church until she suffered a debilitating stroke in December 15, 2014.  She served as a deaconess, a member of the Women's Choir and on several auxiliaries within the church.

Barbara Ann transitioned to her eternal resting place on Monday, January 25, 2021 at her son's home in Clinton, Maryland.  Barbara Ann Green has joined the love of her life and husband of 51 years, Watkins Green, Jr.; brothers, James "Buddy" Cotton and Donnie "Boo-Boo" Cotton; and sister, Myrtle "Sweets" Hughes.

She leaves to cherish her memories, children, Sharon V. Super, Eric B. Green, Tammie R. Weber; and brother, William Henry Cotton; sisters in-law, Alicia Stith Cotton  (William) and Sheila Edgar Cotton (the late James Cotton) both of East Orange, New Jersey; sons-in-law 'Larry Super of Hampton, Virginia (Sharon) and William 'Bill" Weber (Tammie) of Richmond, Virginia; aunts-in-law, Lelia Parker Baxter of  Franklin, Virginia and Ruby Smith Baxter of Portsmouth, Virginia; second cousins, Ethelynne Wilkes of Washington, DC and Laura Mae Brown of Danville, Virginia;  grandchildren, Jazmine Flowers, Cameron Super, Hannah Leigh Joyner, Erica Green, and  Danielle Green;  great grandson, Elijah Green;  nieces, nephews, first cousins and a host of friends throughout the country.
Barbara Ann leaves a legacy of love and faith in God.

The celebration of life for Barbara Ann Green will begin on Monday, February 1, 2021 with public viewing from 3pm – 6pm at O. H. Smith & Son Funeral Home.  Due to COVID-19, the funeral on Tuesday, February 2, 2021 at 12:00 pm will only be for immediate family members – but we are excited to live stream the funeral service on Facebook (see Little Zion Baptist Church- Hampton) to celebrate our mother.  Interment will follow in Hampton Memorial Gardens.
