On Thursday, December 12, 2024, Bettie Ruth Perkins Guy was lovingly embraced by her Creator and welcomed into her eternal home. Known for her unwavering faith, vibrant spirit, and devotion to her family, Bettie left an indelible mark on everyone who knew her.

Born on November 13, 1937, in Greenville, North Carolina, to the late James Henry and Mary Lee Perkins, Bettie grew up in a home filled with love and resilience. She shared her early years with her siblings, creating memories that would become cherished family stories. Preceded in death by her husband, Albert, her brothers James Lee, Roosevelt, and Julian, and her sister Christine, Bettie remained a pillar of strength and connection for her family.

A proud graduate of Grimesland High School (Class of 1955), Bettie pursued her passion for learning at Shaw University, majoring in Business. It was during her college years that she met the love of her life, and the two began a lifelong journey of love and partnership, marrying on October 13, 1962. Together, they built a beautiful family, welcoming their beloved daughter, Patsy Devonne.

Bettie's professional journey included years of dedication at Gloria Manufacturing as a seamstress and later with AAFES in inventory management. Yet, her true joy was found in her roles as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, where her love shone the brightest.

Her faith was the cornerstone of her life. A committed member of First Baptist Church East End. Bettie was a Deaconess and later Deaconess Emerita, Bible Bowl expert, and a source of encouragement during Sunday School and Noonday Prayer meetings. Her lemon cake became legendary—a sweet expression of her love and hospitality that brought smiles to countless faces.

Bettie's passions extended beyond the kitchen. She and her husband loved exploring the open road, traveling to new places, and creating memories on their journeys. With a green thumb and a generous heart, Bettie cultivated a bountiful garden, sharing fresh collards and produce with her church family and friends.

Her family and loved ones will deeply miss her sweet spirit and enduring love. She leaves behind her cherished daughter, Patsy G. Sheppard (Lorenzo); her grandchildren, Lauren and Lorenzo, Jr. (Stephanie); great-grandchildren, Landen, Londynn, and Skylar; her sister, Molin Wilson-Byrd; her special nieces, Mary Lee, Carole Ann, Dee Dee, Yolanda, Crystal, Anita, and Sabrina. She also leaves a host of nephews, cousins, and dear friends. Bettie's legacy lives on in the hearts of her extended Perkins family, whose reunions she treasured.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, December 19, 2024 at First Baptist Church East End.  Interment will follow in Hampton Memorial Gardens.  Viewing will be from 3-6 p.m., Wednesday, December 18, 2024 at the funeral home and two hours prior to the service at the church on Thursday.  O.
