Obituary

Betty transitioned from labor to reward, gaining her Crown of Victory surrounded by her loving family and friends on July 3, 2023.

Betty Vaughn was born on January 21, 1955, in Sumter, South Carolina, and was the daughter of the late Spencer and Eva Vaughn. Betty was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Harold Brooks; brothers, Thomas Earl Vaughn, and Carl Vaughn; and sister, Brenda Vaughn.

Betty received her education in the Newport News Public Schools System. Betty worked at Avon for 15 plus years,

Betty had a deep unwavering love for God and gave her life to the Lord at an early age. She was a longtime devoted and loyal member of Zion Baptist Church (ZBC) in Newport News, Virginia.

Betty leaves behind to cherish her legacy two loving daughters, Demetrius "Dee" Bellamy (Jamalh) of Newport News, Virginia and Carmen "Kita" Kelley (DeVon) of Hampton, Virginia; two granddaughters, Deztanie Shields-Tucker and DeZhana Shields-Tucker both of Newport News, Virginia; four grandsons, Tyree Kelley, Tyleek Kelley both of Hampton, Virginia, Jamalh Bellamy of California and Donmanic Lyons of Hampton, Virginia; two Grand-dogs, Sugar Marie and Prince Obsidian Bellamy of Newport News, Virginia; three sisters, Earline Wright of Richmond, Virginia, Jacqueline Ward (Larry) and Linda Vaughn all of Hampton, Virginia; two brothers, Darnell Vaughn of Newport News, Viginia and Darrell Vaughn of Maryland; a Special Brother, Robert Shields (Valerie) of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; four Sisters-in-Love, Shirley Doumini-Ojujoh (Michael) of Newport News, Viginia, Brenda Brooks of Charlottesville, Virginia, Cheryl Reamon (Tommy) of Gloucester, Virginia and Ellen Shields of Alexandria, Virginia; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and extended children.

The Celebration of Life Service will be held 11 a.m., on Saturday, July 15, 2023 at Zion Baptist Church, Newport News.  Entombment will follow in Hampton Memorial Gardens.  Viewing will be held from 3-6 p.m., on Friday, July 14, 2023 at the funeral home.  O. H. Smith & Son Funeral Home is honored to serve the family.
