Bobbie Jean Anderson was born in Crescent City, FL on January 14th, 1941 to the late Ella and Kelley Anderson. She was the fourth out of 8 children from this blessed union. While growing up in Crescent City, she attended high school in Palatka, FL where she played on the girls' basketball team. After graduating high school, she met her husband, Leroy Duncan. They married in 1957 and were blessed with their first born, Leroy Duncan II.  Shortly after, they migrated from FL to Harlem, NYC, where they would be blessed with three more sons: the late Kelly Duncan, Eugene Duncan, and Howard Duncan. Bobbie and Leroy's marriage ended in the early 70's and years later Bobbie found love again with Thomas Stokes, whom she had her last child and only daughter and namesake, Bobbie Jean Duncan, Jr.

Bobbie Anderson worked as a home health care professional from the 70's until the 90's. She was known for her quick wit and outgoing persona; she made people laugh on the darkest of days, and was constantly sought out as a confidant and advisor amongst close family and friends. She was very family oriented; ensuring that she never missed any of her grandchildren's graduations. She loved celebrating and throwing parties with her family and friends every chance she had. She was especially known for her passion for home décor.

Although she relocated to Hampton, VA for the past decade of her life, her heart remained in Harlem, NYC where she was a part of a strong village that banded together like family. Bobbie Anderson will always be highly revered to those in the Harlem community where everyone's door was open to welcome each other.

To cherish her memory, she leaves her children, Leroy Duncan II, Eugene Duncan, Howard Duncan, and Bobbie Jean Duncan-Sally; grandchildren, Leroy Duncan III, Sharine Duncan, Fondarae Duncan, Fatima Duncan and Corey Pepaj; and five great grandchildren.  She also leaves her last remaining and youngest sibling, Herman Anderson, as well as two daughters-in- law, one son-in-law, and a host of nieces, nephews and beloved friends and neighbors.

The Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 29, 2023 at O. H. Smith & Son Funeral Home.  Viewing will take place from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of the service at the funeral home on Saturday.  O. H. Smith & Son Funeral Home is honored to serve the family.
