Obituary

In the afternoon hours on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, God made the decision to call His child Brenda Carol Armstrong home. This loving sister, aunt, cousin, niece, and friend answered the call faithfully.

Born on June 4, 1952 to the late Fred E. Sr. and Coretha Armstrong, she was raised in Newport News, VA. She was a proud Viking and member of the Huntington High School Class of 1970. She was also an alumnus of Hampton Institute, Class of 1974.

She confessed her belief in Jesus Christ and joined Second Baptist Church East End, where she was a member of the Card Club.

Brenda loved reading, thrifting, stationery, and old movies. She participated in numerous Newport News Public Library programs, from computer classes to learning how to style head wraps. Her thrift adventures fed her love of dishes, cutlery, and craft supplies.

Ms. Armstrong, as she was known by the Newport News Police Department, retired after 20+ years of service as the Secretary at the East End Precinct and the Executive Secretary in the Chief’s Office.

She loved to correct spelling and punctuation, and her nieces and nephews called her the “Grammar Police.”

She leaves to cherish her life her siblings Fred, Jr. (Delilah), Frances, Nelson, and Mark. nephew Philip Armstrong (Frances), nieces Sacil, Tenia, and Annese, great nephews Elijah, Isaiah, Justice Jenkins and great niece Makayla Watson.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 21, 2026 at Second Baptist Church East End. Viewing will be from 3-6 p.m. on Friday, March 20, 2026 at the funeral home and two hours prior to the service at the church on Saturday.  O. H.
