Brenda
Manson-Slade
d. Sep 12, 2023
Brenda Manson-Slade entered into eternal rest while at home surrounded by loved ones on September 12, 2023. She was preceded in death by her parents, James E. Manson and Emily M. Manson and her brother, James Ervin Manson, Jr.
Brenda was educated in the Newport News and Hampton public school systems where she was well known as one of the Manson twins. She was a Class of 1967 Phenix High School graduate. She attended Virginia State College and graduated from Thomas Nelson Community College.
Brenda worked alongside her father as business manager at McPhatter & Son, Incorporated for over 50 years prior to her retirement. She was a devoted and active member of First Baptist Church East End for many years. She grew up in the church and enjoyed fellowship with her loving church family. Brenda served as the League of Christian Women President for several terms and always looked forward to planning the annual Women's Day Retreat.
Her home had an open-door policy; everyone was welcomed. Brenda relished spending time with her grandchildren. She treasured being with family and friends, especially during the holidays when she proudly displayed her beautiful seasonal decorations. The greatest times of Brenda's life were often spent "twonding" (twin bonding) with her other half, Linda. She found particular joy in celebrating her birthdays with her special friends, The Birthday Club. Brenda was always impeccably dressed and admired by many for her sense of style. Her signatures were bold lipstick and black and white outfits. She loved seeing her friends and family dressed up and looking their best.
Brenda leaves to cherish her memory devoted husband, Glenn Slade; children, Joi Crittendon (Wayne Deadwyler), Deven Burden (Ning), Keven Burden (Roberta), Sharon Slade and Crystal Slade; grandchildren, Monét, Logan, Ethan, Graysen; sisters, Katie Patterson (Julian), and Bessie Riddick; twin sister, Linda M. Keene; goddaughter/second daughter, Kaya Keene Bonett; goddaughter, Shekena Lynch; godson, Chawan E. Barnes, and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, and friends.
The Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, September 20, 2023 at First Baptist Church East End, 3000 Jefferson Avenue, Newport News, Virginia 23607. O. H. Smith & Son Funeral Home is honored to serve the family.
