Mrs. Bruce Marie Ward

July 30, 1922 - March 14, 2024

Mrs. Bruce Marie Ward passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, March 14, 2024.  Mrs. Ward was born July 30, 1922, in Suffolk, Virginia.  At the age of 14, she moved to Newport News.  She attended and graduated from Huntington High School in 1941.

She was predeaced in death by her mother, Mrs. Brucie Manly and 3 sons, Dwight L. Parker Sr., Marshall B. Ward Jr. and Gregory M. Ward Sr.

She is survied by four sons and one daughter:  Joseph Ronald Ward Sr. (Brenda), Michael V. Ward Sr. (Patsy), James A. Ward Sr. (Jeion), Donald G. Ward, and Audrey L. Alexander (Joe Beck).  She is also survived by 18 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and 8 great great grandchildren.

Mrs. Ward worked for many years at the historic Pearlie's Restaurant as a cook.  She later worked 37 years as a cook supervisor at the Virginia School for the Deaf and Blind.

Mrs. Ward was a devout Catholic, whose faith was the center of her life.  She found strength in prayers.  She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church.  Mrs. Ward can be viewed and her family may be greeted on Saturday, March 23rd from 12-3 p.m. at O. H. Smith & Son Funeral Home.  A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, March 25, 2024 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 230- 33rd Street, Newport News, Virginia.  O. H.
