Byron M.
Sears, Jr.
d. Jun 9, 2024
Byron M. Sears Jr., 77, of Richmond, Virginia departed this life peacefully in his sleep on June 9, 2024. He was affectionately known as "Biggie" to his family.
Byron was born on April 29, 1947 to Byron Sears Sr. and Bessie Sears of Newport News, Virginia.
He married the love of his life, Evelyn Sears (affectionately called Eve, Poonie and Wuu), on October 20, 1968. Fifty-Five years and still together! She was the jelly to his peanut butter, which by the way was his favorite sandwich. They had two children, Ebony Sears of Richmond, VA; and Dawn Sears of Newport News, VA.
Byron accepted Christ and was baptized at Second Baptist Church in Richmond, Virginia.
He retired in 2014 from the Virginia Employment Commission after 30 years of service.
Byron was a force of nature, determined to provide for his family and give them the life he felt they deserved. His family meant more to him than anything else in the world, something he often mentioned. He was tremendously proud of Ebony's success as nurse and Dawn's success in business.
Byron was also a passionate fan of music, Cadillac cars, the Dallas Cowboys and NCIS; which brought him joy and relaxation.
Anyone who knew Byron knew that he was the most loving husband to his wife and father to his children.
Despite spending much time in and out of the hospital his last few years, he never lost his sense of humor. Throughout his entire journey, he cracked jokes and gave thumbs up. He had a great ability to make others smile and his sense of humor will be missed.
Byron was preceded in death by his father, Byron; his mother, Bessie; and his sister, Barbara Stewart. Byron leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Evelyn Sears and daughters Ebony Sears and Dawn Sears; three siblings, Lillian Byrd, Allen Sears and Karen Keene (Reginald); and a host of other relatives and friends that will treasure his memory for years.
Funeral service will be held at 2 pm, Friday, June 14, 2024 at O. H. Smith & Son Funeral Home. Viewing will be from 3-6 pm on Thursday, June 13, 2024 at the funeral home. O. H. Smith & Son Funeral Home is honored to serve the family.
