Carl Mix departed this life on Tuesday, January 16, 2024.  He was born on January 10, 1946 to the late Bessie Mix and Carnell Jackson in Passaic, New Jersey.  He was the youngest of two siblings from Ms. Bessie Mix and the middle of seven siblings from Mr. Carnell Jackson.  Much like his mother, he enjoyed cooking.  He was a true grill master, always needing to have the latest and greatest grills so he could work.  Winter, spring, summer, and fall it didn't matter he was lighting the grill.   And like his father, he had a knack for working with his hands.  He was a self-proclaimed "Jack of all trades, master of none."  He worked on cars, built houses, wired electricity, and eventually even worked on airplanes, once he joined the Air Force.  Carl started off as a flight line mechanic and eventually transitioned to a computer analyst.  He spent 26 years in the Air Force traveling the globe.  When he wasn't on a plane flying, he was driving around the country.

Behind the wheel was his therapy. Give him a bag of pumpkin seeds and a drink and he was good for hours.  He was a God-fearing man, and he had a thing for dressing up; going to church was always the perfect excuse.  Whether he was singing in a bass/baritone voice in the choir or playing the keyboard, he was going to look clean doing it.  And as a true military man, if there's a deck of cards around with Bid Whist or Pinochle being played, watch out!

Carl was very selfless and giving. He would often do for those he loved and cared for even before doing for himself.  Fixing what's broke, helping before being asked, and saying "Yes" when he really should be saying "No," was just who he was at his core.

Carl is preceded in death by three sisters: Ruth Simmons, Carnelle Jackson, and Annis Jackson-Higgs.  He is survived by his wife, L. Arnell Mix, his two sons, Cameron and William; four of his siblings: Edward Mix, Carnell Pinkston, Tony Jackson, and Sarah Harris.  He also leaves to cherish his memory, five grand kids and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, January 25, 2024 at O. H. Smith & Son Funeral Home.  Viewing will be from 9 a.m. until the hour of the service at the funeral home on Thursday.  O. H. Smith & Son Funeral Home is honored to serve the family.
