Carolyn Landis was born on July 25, 1949 to the late Zenas and Zuriffia Landis in Newport News, Virginia. At an early age, she moved to Aberdeen Gardens and was a resident for over 60 years.
Carolyn attended Hampton City Schools and was a Class of 1967 graduate of George P. Phenix High School. She was also a graduate of Virginia State College with a degree in Business Administration.
Carolyn worked at NASA for many years and later retired from Nextel Communications. At an early age, Carolyn joined Wesley Grove United Church of Christ and remained an active member for over 50 years. She later became a founding member of Ivy Farms Community of Faith Church and was an active member until her passing. Carolyn was known for her kindness and generosity. She enjoyed her special and loving family, spending time with her infamous "Birthday Club," working with her church and multiple Sclerosis Group. Carolyn was known for her pies and sending cards. If no one else sent you a birthday card, she did!
Carolyn is survived by her only sister, Cassandra Landis Lynch (Willie); treasured nephews, Jeremy Lynch (LaCresha) and Johnathan Lynch; foster nephew, Richard Ratliff; great nephews, Amyre Ashlock, JaCorey Lynch, JaMarie Lynch and Tayareon Blythe; stepmother, Alma Landis; stepsister, Debbie Moore; aunts, Priscella Daniel, Mabel Landis, Phyllis Landis, JoAnne Landis, Kathleen Landis Butler, Marene Landis; and uncle, Claude Landis. She was the Godmother of Deven Burden and Keven Burden. She also leaves a very special furry companion, Bully; a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 12:00 p.m., Saturday, November 24, 2018 at Ivy Farms Community of Faith Church, 55 Ivy Farms Road, Newport News, VA 23601. Upon Carolyn's request, her body was donated to science.
