Hampton- On September 3, 2017 Catherine "Cat" Young Horne entered peacefully into heavenly rest. Born on August 13, 1944, Catherine is the daughter of the late Robert Luther Young, Sr. and Catherine Brown Young. Preceding her in death was her son, Edward Lawrence Horne, Jr. She leaves to cherish her memories her husband, Edward Lawrence Horne, Sr.; one daughter, Tamika Luster; four grandchildren, Terrell Luster, Taji Luster, Troy Luster and Edward Horne III; two brothers, Robert L. Young, Jr. (Ann) and Jerome Young, Sr. (Theresa); one sister, Harriet Young-White (Lee); two sisters-in-law, Gloria Horne and Gwen Horne; brother-in-law, Ellis Boyd; nephews, Mabili Akinyele, Osei Akinyele, Robert Emery Young, Jerome Young, Wendell Horne, Aaron Tennessee, Terrell Holloway, Randel Holloway; nieces, Alicia Young, Noelle White, Penny Verlley, Debbi Holloway, Terri Tennessee, Robin Anderson, Niya Anderson, Jada Anderson, Lisa Hughes, Veronica Horne, Vivian Horne, Ty Verley, Malisha Holloway; a host of relatives, friends and former students. Homegoing service will be held 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, September 12, 2017 at Gethsemane Baptist Church, 5405 Roanoke Avenue, Newport News, Virginia 23605, Rev. Dr. Dwight Riddick, Senior Pastor with Rev. Dr. Anne Stovall officiating. Interment will follow at the Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery. Viewing will begin at 1 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home and the family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. during which time the Ivy Beyond the Wall service will take place.
