Celesta Sherrell Lewis Reynolds was born on September 10, 1947 to the late Thomas Arthur Lewis, Sr. and Marguerite Ingram Lewis in Newport News, Virginia. She entered into eternal rest on January 29, 2020.
Celesta, "Kookie," as she was fondly called, attended Booker T. Washington Elementary School and graduated with the class of 1965 of Huntington High School, Newport News. She immediately entered Bennett College, Greensboro, North Carolina, majoring in Foreign Language. Upon graduating from college, Celesta began teaching foreign languages at Huntington High School. Her teaching career spanned over 30 years. During those years, "Kookie," sponsored the Spanish and French Clubs. She took students on two trips to Mexico and Spanish speaking countries. "Kookie" was loved by her students for the many Mexican lunches and fiestas. She also taught for many years at the C. Waldo Scott Center in Newport News.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Thomas A. Lewis, Jr.
Celesta was Godmother to many, Sherrelle Sardik, who carries her name, Ramona Bullock, daughter of her late brother, Thomas; Deena Moore Franklin and Rachel Moore Andrews, daughters of her best friend Ramona Hayes Moore. Celesta took her role as Godmother seriously, remembering birthdays and all special occasions.
Celesta Sherrell Lewis Reynolds will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by her family and friends.
A Memorial Service will be held 11:00 a.m., Thursday, February 6, 2020 at Carver Memorial Presbyterian Church, 830- 25 th Street, Newport News. O. H. Smith & Son Funeral Home is honored to serve the family.
