Chiquita L. "Sis" Graves Lewis went to her eternal rest on August 2, 2021.  She was born in Newport News, Virginia, and graduated from Huntington High School in 1970.  She was employed as a telephone operator for C&P telephone services, a dispatcher for North End Cabs on Jefferson Ave. and became a self-employed tax preparer, until her health no longer permitted her to continue. She was a great fighter on dialysis for over 15 years until she said, "enough is enough" and wanted to rest without any pain or suffering during her last days on earth.

Chiquita always loved to cook, not only for her family, but also for the community in which she lived. No one was a stranger to her, and she prepared a large meal for anyone that was hungry. She would even say, "take some food home with you."  She loved to cook homemade banana pudding and watch her two brothers fight over how much they can have. She enjoyed talking and caring for people and if she could help them in anyway, she would try to give what ever talent or gift she may have to comfort those she has helped.

She was preceded in death by her loving parents, George F. Graves, Sr. and Mary E. Graves; husband, Robert Lewis; son, Trevino "Terry" Graves; and brothers, Ernest, George, and Thomas Graves.

She leaves to mourn, her son, Cornick "Bud" Lewis; sister, Teresa Graves; brothers, Anthony, Alfonso, and James Graves; Jereisha Graves, her niece that she raised as her daughter; a host of grandchildren, nieces, and nephews; cousins from Reidsville, NC and Danville, VA; along with her friends from the surrounding Hampton Roads area.

Funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 9, 2021 at O. H. Smith and Son Funeral Home.  Interment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 2700 Parish Ave., Newport News. Family and friends are asked to assemble by 10:00 a.m. on Monday at the American Legion Post 25, 7609 Marshall Avenue, Newport News, for the procession to the funeral.  Viewing will be from 12:00 – 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 8, 2021 at the funeral home and from 9:00 a.m. until the hour of the service on Monday.  O.
