Clayton R. "Rufus" Luster was born in Warwick County, VA on October 18, 1939.  He was the son of the late David and Gladys Luster.  He transitioned April 12, 2023 in Hampton, VA.  He was educated in the Newport News Public Schools and graduated from Carver High School in 1957.  Rufus was drafted in the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1966.  After a long employment he retired from Horn Brothers as a machinist.

Rufus joined Greater Walters AME Zion at an early age.   He served on the Usher Ministry.

Rufus enjoyed bowling and traveling, he went on several cruises to destinations such as Alaska, Jamaica, Aruba, Bahamas, Mexico and other places.  He enjoyed attending Carver High School class reunions and the Luster family reunions.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Karmyn; grandson, Tre'; and brother, David.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 53 years, Carol W. Luster; his children, Clayton R. Luster, Jr. (Judy) and Raymond Hotson (Carolina); brothers, Shurley and Curtis; eight grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, and a host of many loving nieces, nephews, family members, caring neighbors and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, April 22, 2023 at Greater Walters AME Zion Church.  Viewing will be from 3-6 p.m., Friday, April 21, 2023 at O. H. Smith & Son Funeral Home. O. H. Smith & Son Funeral Home is honored to serve the family.
