Obituary

Cynthia G. Cooke was born on October 20, 1951, in Newport News, Virginia, to the late Joseph Bell and the late Myrtle Hundley. She was raised by her grandparents the late Henry and Frances Green. She was the oldest of eight siblings. Cynthia was called home to receive eternal rest by the Lord on October 12, 2023.

Cynthia was affectionately known as "Pookie/Nana" by her grand kids, who would say she was loving, gracious, kindhearted, selfless, witty, family oriented, supportive, and tenacious.

Cynthia was educated in Newport News Public School District and was a 1970 graduate of Huntington High School (Home of the Vikings). She attended Norfolk State University. She also received an Associate Degree in General Studies from Strayer University. Cynthia was employed at Eastern State Hospital for several years. She retired after serving in the Army Reserve for thirty-five years and she also worked as a Unit Administrator at Fort Eustis for twenty-two years.

As a young child, she attended Second Baptist Church (now Miracle Temple Baptist Church) where she dedicated herself to the Lord.  She later joined Faith Deliverance Baptist Church, where she served on numerous committees, such as Hospitality, Nursing Home, and Women's Scholarship committees.  She was dependable and could be counted on to do whatever was asked of her.

Cynthia married the love of her life, the late Henry Cooke, and together they had three beautiful children. She loved and cherished her family.

Cynthia was preceded in death by her husband; daughter, Anissa Cooke; mother and father; grandparents; sister, Tanya Hundley; three brothers, Leonard, Linwood, and Kenneth Hundley; and a host of uncles and aunts.

She leaves to cherish her memories: her caregiver and daughter, Tiffany Cooke of Newport News, VA; son, Brandon Allen Lee Cooke Sr. of Kuwait; sister, Angela Hundley of Hampton, VA; two brothers, Michael Hundley (Carolyn) of Newport News, VA and Winston Hundley (Ida) of Smithfield, VA; six grandchildren, Jocelyn Cooke, Ja'Miah Cooke, Brandon Allen Lee Cooke, Jr., RaeKwon Cooke, Tevin Cooke and Nizay Cooke; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
