David Randolph Doctor peacefully entered eternal rest on September 10, 2022 at home with his family by his side.  David was a native of Camp Branch, South Carolina.  He was born on January 19, 1953 to the late Richard and Justine Doctor.  He was the youngest of five children.

David earned his bachelor's degree from South Carolina State University in 1974 and was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the United States Army. He served for 22 years and retired with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.  While in the military, David held a wide variety of command and staff positions and was awarded a number of meritorious honors during his career.  After he retired, he later earned a master's degree from Hampton University and worked for Technical and Project Engineering as a Project Manager until January 2022. David was proud of his service to our country while in uniform and as a contractor.

David was a passionate and loyal supporter of South Carolina State University. He credited the university for helping him to become the man he was. He was a life member of the SCSU National Alumni Association and a member of the Tidewater Peninsula Chapter.  He supported many activities with his time, talents and resources.  He was involved in various alumni activities at the national and local level and received numerous awards and recognition.  David was also a life member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., where he served in various roles for over 45 years and received national, regional and local recognition.  David was also a dedicated member of ROCKS, Inc. and the S.C. State University Military Alumni Association.  David also volunteered with the Virginia Peninsula Foodbank where he was an instructor in the Culinary Arts Program. David was a member of First Baptist Church of Hampton where he loyally served as a member of the Senior Usher Ministry. David was passionate about where he grew up and the values he learned about life from his parents and the elders who influenced him in Camp Branch.  Because of these influences, he was dedicated to family, to service, and to doing things well.  His favorite motto was "if it is not broke, tweak it and make it better".

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Rayfus Doctor, Richard Doctor and Jerome Doctor.

Left to treasure his memory and celebrate his life are his wife of 42 years, Camilla; his children, David Mims, Tosha Wright (Glenn, Sr.), and Derrick Doctor (Talia); his two grandchildren, Glenn, Jr. and Caleb; his sister, Marilyn Smith; his mother-in-law, Beulah Moore; his sisters-in-law, Lillie Doctor, Gwendolyn Doctor, Linda Moore, Annetta Wharton and Brunetta Moore; his brothers-in-law, Cedrick Moore and Fentrell Moore (Hakika); and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members and friends.  He will be missed by those who knew him.

The Omega Psi Phi memorial service will be held with family at a scheduled time and location.

To celebrate David's life, a memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Monday, September 26, 2022 at First Baptist Church of Hampton.  Interment will be in Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery, Suffolk, VA at a later date.
