Deborah Alcenia (Smith) Scott was the eldest daughter of Clarence Martin and Gladys LillieMae (Robinson) Smith born on August 10, 1948 in Newport News, Virginia. Deborah was a 1966 graduate of George P. Phenix High School and would leave Hampton to attend Cortez Peters Business School in Washington, D.C for one year to pursue a degree in Business Administration. In April of 1969, Deborah earned her Associates Degree in Secretarial Science from Peninsula Business College and married her high school sweetheart, James ("Jimmy") E. Scott on November 15th. The couple would move to Germany with their daughter, Felisha due to Jimmy being in the army. Their military status allowed her opportunity to travel to Fort Campbell, KY (Clarksville), Hunter Army-Airfield, GA (Savannah) and back home to Fort Eustis, VA (Newport News). With over thirty years of secretarial work experience under her belt Deborah spent twenty-two years employed by Newport News Shipbuilding as Administrative Secretary for department (E81) until she retired early due to health reasons in 2006. As a faithful and loyal member of St. James United Methodist Church all of her life. She served in various ways as an usher, former president of United Methodist Women, and a member of choir as well as the Bread and Seventy Plus Ministries. She was also active in her community as a member of the Orcutt Avenue Senior Citizens Group, Gospel Music Workshop of America- (Hampton Roads Chapter under the direction of Chester Williams), Delta Mu Business Sorority, and the Ruth Unity Midlothian Chapter #3, Order Eastern Star Prince Hall Affiliation. She was a loyal member for many years and held the highest position in the chapter which gave her the title of Past Worthy Matron. On Monday, May 11, 2020 she was given rest after being ill and was preceded in death by her daughter Felisha, her parents, two sisters Delphia Roberts and Brenda Harley. Deborah leaves infinite love and fond memories to the following survivors one sister Adreania Johnson of Suffolk, VA, one grand-aunt, Louise Green of Hampton, VA, great-grand uncle Delma Robinson (Alice) of Washington, D.C and godmother, Gladys Clark of Hampton, VA along with a host of beloved relatives and friends.
