Delores E.
Williams
d. Oct 20, 2019
Newport News
Delores Elizabeth Williams was born in Hampton, Virginia on November 16, 1936, to the late Nathaniel and Carrie Webster. The second of three children, she was educated in the Hampton Public School system and graduated from George P. Phenix High School in 1955. Shortly afterwards, she married the late Charles Lawrence. To their union, three children--Brenda, Emmanuel, and Christopher--were born. The marriage ended amicably and she later married A.C. Williams, who preceded her in death in 1997.
After attending cosmetology school and working in the grocery and retail industries, Delores went to work for the federal government and later joined local government. She retired in 2004.
A devout Christian, Delores was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Hampton until her health began to fail. She also loved to entertain and would regularly prepare delicious meals for family and friends. Her desserts-- especially cakes, banana puddings and fried pies---were among the favorites of her family members and friends. She also enjoyed home decor and holiday arts & crafts.
Delores was preceded in death by her parents, daughter, Brenda Burton, son, Christopher Lawrence and a sister, Arlene Webster. Left to celebrate Delores' life and mourn her passing are one son, Emmanuel Lawrence (wife Jean); a brother, Nathaniel Webster and a sister, Geraldine Singleton; three sisters-in-law--Econyes Lowe, Margaret Morris, and Maude Lawrence; a stepdaughter, Kitya Chandler; a step-son, Clay Williams, a nephew, Earl Webster; six grandchildren--Lakeisha Burton, Chean Lawrence, Natalie Burton, Paul Chandler (step-grandson), B.J. Burton, Nathan Lawrence (wife Liza); five great grandchildren--Dezhaniq Robertson, India Robertson, Jalen Bullock, Amaia Horton, Kemone Gilmore and a great great grandchild, Nahze Chandler.
