Derek T. Hatcher was born on February 3, 1965 in North Babylon, New York to Rose Marie and Fred Hatcher who both preceded him in death along with two brothers, Keith and Kevin Hatcher; his only sister, Karen Christian; nieces, Jessica Christian; his aunts, Lorraine, Laura, Esta; godmother, Elaine; and his teammate, Floyd.  Derek gained his wings on June 3, 2022 at the age of 57.  He received his high school diploma at North Babylon in New York.

Derek had a 28 year marriage with Juanita Hatcher and had two daughters, Natarsha Goodman of Suffolk, Virginia and Sierra Hatcher of Newport News, Virginia; and his only son, Rhamell Hatcher of Newport News, Virginia.  "Solid Dee" was a Floor Tech Supervisor at Christopher Newport University for sixteen in a half years.

"Solid Dee" was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, neighbor and friend.  He was known as the "Turn Up" King/Life of the party.  He was very dedicated to his family and was a hardworking man.  His hobbies were watching football, drinking Hennessy and Budweiser and having cookouts.

In addition to his wife, daughters and son, he also leaves to cherish his memories, granddaughters, Jamaikah, Trejah, Kasyra' and Kymani'; grandsons, Maurice and Malik; great grandson, Jeremiah; godsons, Jessiah and Kingh; his favorite dog, Bernie Mac Hatcher; brothers-in-law, Bernace Christian and James Copeland; sisters-in-law, Leola Copeland and Evelyn Mills; future sons-in-law, Shyheim and Telly; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m., on Friday, June 17, 2022 at O. H. Smith & Son Funeral Home.  Viewing will be from 3:00-6:00 p.m. at the funeral home on Thursday, June 16, 2022 and two hours prior to the service on Friday.  O. H. Smith & Son Funeral Home is honored to serve the family.
