With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Derrick Alexander Lindsay, who departed from this world on May 19, 2024. He was 38 years old. Derrick was a beloved father, son, brother, uncle, nephew, and loyal friend to many.

Derrick was born on June 24, 1985, at Riverside Hospital in Newport News, Virginia to his parents H. Alan Benthall and Ursula Peden Lindsay. He is survived by his loving and steadfast companion, Briana Matthews. Derrick also leaves behind three sons Darion Lindsay, Damarri Chandler, and Davion Lindsay. Derrick is also survived by his siblings Terrance Lindsay, Sheronda Lindsay, John Peden, Najwa Benthall, and Nala Benthall.

Derrick also leaves behind a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews who cherished him deeply. Additionally, he had many friends whom he considered brothers, that he shared a special bond with.

Derrick was a licensed welder by trade and dedicated worker at Smithfield Foods. His leadership skills quickly distinguished him in his role, leading to several training opportunities to prepare him to become a team lead. His colleagues and superior members admired his hard work, integrity and willingness to go the extra mile.

A private memorial service will be held to honor Derrick's life.  O. H. Smith & Son Funeral Home is honored to serve the family.
