Doris A. Barber gained her heavenly wings on December 25, 2022, in Portsmouth Virginia surrounded by her loving family. Known to her community, friends and family as "Poppy." Doris was born June 4, 1943 to Annie and Don Kirk.

Doris was predeceased by her parents; sister, Sarah Johnson; and grandson, Reginald Jenkins.

Doris was a lifelong resident of Hampton, Virginia. She leaves to mourn her legacy, husband, Oscar Barber of 51 years; sister, Leonas Hill; brother, Eugene Kirk; children, Barbara Jenkins, Angela (Devon) Barnes and Lawrence (Regina) Kirk; granddaughter, Chantrell Jenkins; great-grandsons, Kyrell, Kyle, Nasir, and Noah; special niece, Cynthia Jones: and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.

Doris worked several years at Holiday Inn, Hampton Institute 10 years and 15 years of service at Eastern State Hospital until her retirement in 1999. Poppy loved her trips to North Carolina and New York every summer as well as gardening and crabbing.

A public viewing will be held Thursday, January 5, 2023 from 3:00pm to 6:00pm at O.H. Smith and Son Funeral Home.  A celebration of life will be held 10:30 a.m., Friday, January 6, 2023 at Bethel Christian Church, 21 Rip Rap Rd. Hampton, VA. The family would like to give thanks to everyone for their acts of kindness and comfort during this difficult time.  O. H. Smith & Son Funeral Home is honored to serve her family.
