Doris H. Watson, 92, of Hampton passed away on March 25, 2022. She was born on September 15, 1929 to William Harris and Emma Rainey in Kenbridge, VA.  Doris graduated from Huntington High School and later received her Bachelor of Arts degree in English with a minor in German from Virginia State College. She later received a master's degree in Elementary Education from Hampton Institute and went on to teach in the Newport News Public School system for over thirty-five years.

She was an active member of Saint Augustine's Episcopal Church and held many positions. In 2019 she was recognized for her outstanding and dedicated service as the manager for the Saturday Lunch program which she served for over thirty years. In August of 2019 the Parish Hall of the church was named the Doris H. Watson Parish Hall. In addition to her church membership, she was an active member of the Newport News Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

In 1952 she married her high school sweetheart, Roger R. Watson, Sr., and they had one son, Roger R. Watson, Jr.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father; sister, Iva Hurston; brother, Lenoy Harris (Pearl); her husband, Roger R. Watson Sr.; and stepmother, Virginia Harris.

She leaves behind her son, Roger R Watson, Jr. (Cynthia); grandson, Renard Watson (Casey); granddaughter, Brittany Watson; great grandchildren, Naeem, Reshard, Aniya, James, Renard, Jr. and Zaria.

A viewing will be held at O. H. Smith & Son Funeral Home on Sunday, April 3rd from 12-3 p.m. and the Delta's will perform the Omega Omega Service from 3-4pm. The Homegoing Service will be held at 11 a.m., on Monday, April 4th at Saint Augustine's Episcopal Church in Newport News, VA.  O.H. Smith & Son Funeral Home is honored to serve the family.
