Dorothy J. Powe, 70, transitioned on May 16, 2023 surrounded by her family and loved ones. Dorothy was born in Cheraw, SC and grew up with her father and mother and 3 brothers and 3 sisters. Over the years, Dorothy joined the military where she served for 8 years in the United States Army. During her span in the military she traveled to many countries. She enjoyed expressing her inner thoughts and love for God through poetry and was an author of one book titled 'My Poetry Corner'. Dorothy was loved by many people because of her laughter, joy, and livelihood. Dorothy will be dearly missed and always remembered.

Dorothy was predeceased by her parents, Erie and Cary Powe. She is survived by her daughter, Deirdre; granddaughter, Layla; and 6 siblings.

Dorothy requested a celebration of life to be held in honor as opposed to a service of sadness. We request that you all join us in celebrating her beautiful life at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 20, 2023 at Christ Church, 39 Joynes Rd., Hampton. Viewing will be 3-6 p.m., Friday, May 19, 2023 at O. H. Smith & Son Funeral Home and from 9 a.m. until the hour of the service at the church on Saturday. O. H. Smith & Son Funeral Home is honored to serve her family.
