Edith Virginia Fox Eley

July 1, 1928 – November 24, 2021

Edith Virginia Fox Eley passed Wednesday, November 24, 2021, at the age of 93.  She was born July 1, 1928, in Warwick County, Virginia, to the late Robert Edward Fox and Estelle Cary Fox.

Edith was allowed time off from school to care for her sick Mother and five younger siblings while her Father worked.  After her Mother's death, she went to back to school, graduating from Morrison High School in 1948. She became a Licensed Practical Nurse in the State of Virginia, and also studied and received several certificates in the field of Psychiatry.

Until her death, Edith was a lifelong member and the second oldest member of First Baptist Church Denbigh.

Edith was preceded in death by her husband Reuben Eley, Sr. and their only child, Reuben Eley, Jr., and three brothers Edward R., Albert C., and Gene A. Fox.

She leaves to cherish her memory her devoted friend, Melvin Lunsford; her sister, Juanita E. Wilson; her brother, Franklin D. Fox; and nephew, Gene A. "Tony" Maynor and his wife Tanya Mercer, along with a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

The viewing will be on Friday, December 3, 2021, from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm at O.H. Smith & Son Funeral Home, 3009 Chestnut Avenue, Newport News, VA 23607.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, December 4, 2021, 11:00 am, at First Baptist Church Denbigh, 3628 Campbell Road, Newport News 23602.
