God called home, to eternal rest, the soul of Edith Madaline Hamlin.

(1912-2024)

Edith was born in Hampton, Virginia to the late Abraham J. Lively and Susanna Lively.  She attended public school and was a member of Queen Street Baptist Church in Hampton.  In 1952, she became the second wife of James Alexander Hamlin Sr. and resided in Newport News, Virginia.

She encouraged people to be lifelong students of Scholastics and Political education and to have high aspirations and to never give up the fight to achieve them.  She fully believed that "Life's Journey" will be filled with Joy, Pain, Sacrifice and Success.  She loved conversation, traveling, playing cards, music, dancing, clothes, cars, and good food.

She leaves behind one son, James Hamlin Jr. and his wife, Inez Hamlin of Washington, DC; one granddaughter, Julia Turner of Maryland; one grandson, Don Little of Georgia; several grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Funeral service will be held at 1pm, Saturday, April 20, 2024 at O. H. Smith & Son Funeral Home. O. H. Smith & Son Funeral Home is honored to the serve the family.
