Edwin Lonell "Stump" Sharpless, 88, took his journey to be with the Lord on February 10, 2021. Stump was the son of Edward Sharpless and Doretha Stokes. He was born on March 10, 1932 in Newport News, VA.
Stump attended Newport News Public Schools. He served briefly in the United States Air Force. He was employed and retired from Thomas Nelson Community College Custodial Services.
Stump was a member of First Baptist Church E. E. He enjoyed his church family and was very active in almost every event that was held at the church. He was a member of the men's fellowship. He assisted with Port Shelter and community feeding ministry. He had his own special ministry of sending CDs and DVDs, cards and bulletins to the sick and shut in of the church. He enjoyed spending time with the youth and participated in youth events as well. He had the honor of being selected as the Church Father in 2013.
Stump was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Othello Sharpless and Ivan Sharpless; sisters, Doreatha Mangrum and Juanita Saunders. He leaves to cherish one daughter, Adrienne Cofield Harper, of Surprise, Arizona; one son, Eric Callicutt (Jennifer), of Hampton, VA; Grandchildren, Andre, David, Jamel, Tanisha and Omar all of Arizona; Erica and Jaylan of Hampton, VA; 16 Great Grandchildren and 4 Great-Great Grandchildren; nieces and nephews and a host of other family and friends.
Viewing will be held from 1pm – 4pm on Sunday, February 21, 2021 at O. H. Smith & Son Funeral Home. Celebration of life service will be held 11:00 a.m., Monday, February 22, 2021 at the funeral home. Due to COVID 19 restrictions only 40 people are allowed to attend the service at the funeral home. The service can be viewed by 3:00 p.m. at www.ohsmithandsonfuneralhome.com . Interment will be at Hampton Memorial Gardens. Please keep the family in your prayers. O. H. Smith and Son Funeral Home is honored to serve the family.
