On Sunday, October 22, 2018, God saw fit to call one of His children home. Buddy passed away peacefully at the Walter Reed Convalescent & Rehabilitation Center in Gloucester, VA.
Buddy was born December 27, 1924, in Pee Dee, South Carolina, to Walter and Ida Mae Burris. He moved to Virginia in 1949 where he had a lucrative career as owner and operator of both the Chicken Box in Newport News and Burris' Lounge in Hampton.
He was predeceased by his wife, Lucy; parents; and sisters, Ethel Dixon, Mattie Knowlin and Eliza Hicks. He is survived by several nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews; and great-great nieces and nephews. His nephew, Curtis Knowlin, was his constant caregiver. Buddy was loved and will be sorely missed.
Graveside service will be held 3 p.m., Friday, October 26, 2018 at Hampton Memorial Gardens, Rev. Jerome A. Barber, officiating. Viewing will be from 3 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, October 25, 2018 at the funeral home. O. H. Smith & Son Funeral Home is honored to serve the family.
