Elner Claud Nixon, 78, of Portsmouth transitioned from this earth on Sunday, October 21, 2018. Elner was born in Newport News but had been a resident of Portsmouth since 1965. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Cassandra Nixon.  Elner leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Sherril Nixon; daughter, Andrena Nixon; granddaughters, Ashley and Alisa; other family and friends.

A funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, October 27, 2018 at Holy Angels Catholic Church, 34 Afton Parkway, Portsmouth. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 3920 Airline Blvd., Chesapeake. Viewing will be from 1 to 6 p.m. Friday at the funeral home and from 9:30 a.m. until the hour of the service at the church on Saturday. O. H. Smith and Son Funeral Home is honored to serve the family.
