Elton McCoy "Teddy" Benthall was peacefully called home to be with the Lord on July 18, 2021. He was born October 19, 1960 in Newport News, Virginia to the late Elton Benthall and Jessie Hinton Benthall. Teddy graduated from Warwick High School in Newport News, Virginia.
Teddy worked as a Pipe Foreman for E. W. Muller Contractor, Inc. He also worked for Stilley Construction and Hudgins Contracting Corp. He began his construction career as a teenager at C.A. Barrs Construction where he remained for many years. Teddy loved life and is known for his unique personality, ability to befriend anyone, his kind spirit and big heart. He enjoyed spending time with and spoiling his nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. He loved music, fishing, skiing, boat races, jet skiing, horseback riding and traveling all over the world. He had a passion for horses and was a Miami Dolphins' fan since the 70's. His motto was "Enjoy Your Life."
He was preceded in death by his father Elton Benthall. He leaves to cherish his loving memory, Cynthia Cherry the love of his life for over 37 years; his mother, Jessie Benthall; brother, Hubert Alan Benthall (Sabrina) of Hampton, Virginia; sister, Iraugustina "Tina" Benthall -Sampson (Gregory) of Hampton, Virginia; four nephews , Derek Lindsay, Dustin Sampson (Alexandria), Najwa Benthall, and Tyron Sampson; two nieces, Crystal Sampson and Nala Benthall. Ten great nieces and nephews, Sheilaya, Saniya, Jaliyah, Sianne, Luz, and Sophia; Darion, Noah, Judah, and Jordan; uncles and aunts, Percell Grant (Merilyn), Larry Grant (Teresa), Tony Grant (Regina), Robert Stewart, Johnny Black, Eva Williams, Mary Lassiter, Dorothy Dunn, Lynda Burke, Marion Grant, and Shawneequa Pope (Tyrone) and a host of cousins and friends.
In addition to his father, Teddy was preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents, three aunts, and two uncles.
We humbly thank God for the unconditional love and special time we shared with Elton McCoy "Teddy" Benthall. We will forever miss you Teddy!
Funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m., Thursday, July 29, 2021 at O. H. Smith & Son Funeral Home. Viewing will be from 3:00-6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 28, 2021 at the funeral home and from 9:00 a.m. until the hour of the service on Thursday.
