Obituary

Faye B. Phillips of Newport News passed away on January 6, 2019 while at the Hospice House and Support Care of Williamsburg. Her death followed a short illness. Faye lived a life of service to others. After obtaining her Bachelor of Science Degree from Fayetteville State Teacher's College and her Master of Education Degree from North Carolina Central University, she became a teacher. She taught in the North Carolina, Maryland, Virginia and Germany school districts.

Her life of involvement naturally led to membership in numerous organizations: Life/Golden Member of Lambda Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.; National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women; Member of Local, State and National Retired Teachers; and a Board Member of Historic Jarvisburg Colored School.
Faye was preceded in death by her husband, Aaron; brothers, James Clayton Bowser, Jr. and Shelby Delafield Bowser.
She is survived by her daughter, Tonya; nephew, James Alvin; sister-in-law, Nadene; brothers-in-law, Norris P. Phillips and Clarence Smith; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family sincerely thanks the many relatives and friends for their expressions of sympathy and acts of kindness shown to Faye. The family also thanks the Hospice House and Support Care of Williamsburg for the care rendered to Faye during her hospice stay.

Viewing will begin today, Thursday, January 10, 2019 at 3 p.m. followed by a wake service from 6 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Friday, January 11, 2019 at First Baptist Church Denbigh. O. H. Smith & Son Funeral Home is honored to serve the family.
