Frances Elizabeth Harvey departed this life on Saturday, November 2, 2019, at home with her family in Hampton, VA at the age of 94. Mother Frances was born December 17, 1924 in Talbotton, Georgia to the late Joseph and Rose L. Cheney.
As a child Mother Frances' parents instilled in her the sense of working hard and a love for the Lord. While living in Newport News, Mother Frances was a member of the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ of the Apostolic Faith , where she labored and worshiped faithfully for many years. Lastly, until her health began to decline, Mother Frances was the supervisor of the Women's Ministry and later nominated as the Mother of the church.
Mother Frances held numerous jobs during her life as a School Teacher, Home Health Aide, and a long-time employee at Chesapeake Packing and Fort Monroe Child Care Center. She married the late Robert Harvey and from that union four children. Preceded in death, daughter Mary in 1994. She had nine siblings all born in Georgia. Many people and family members called her "Mother Harvey" for she was a mother and grandmother to many who met her. She was known for her exceptional home cooking, especially for her apple pies, peach cobbler and buttermilk biscuits.
Cherished and treasured memories will remain forever in the hearts of her survivors: son, James (Virginia) and daughters, Barbara (Harry) and Sandra (Asare); grandchildren, Trina, Lemuel, Monica, Tracy, Kim, Charlie, Harry, Ramel, Delon, and Wilbert. Her great grandchildren and host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and friends.
Funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m.,Thursday, November 7, 2019 at O. H. Smith & Son Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Hampton Memorial Gardens. Viewing will be Wednesday, November 6th, from 3 to 6 p.m. at the funeral Home.
