Galwin "Al" Alston, Jr., quietly and without complaint, left us on Tuesday, August 9, 2022.  "Al" was born on August 18, 1947, to Minnie Lee Alston and the late Galwin Alston, Sr. in Newport News, Virginia.  He was the oldest of three sons.

His pre-high school education was in Newport News, graduating from Huntington High School in 1965.  He attended St. Paul's College, Lawrenceville, VA.  "Al" later joined the U. S. Air Force, serving 23 years and retired honorably.

After retirement, "Al" enjoyed careers with Sears, Gateway and the Wal-Mart Distribution Center.

"Al" was a member of St. Paul AME Church in Newport News and served faithfully until his passing.  He was predeceased by his father, Galwin Joe Alston and his brothers, Michael and Richard Alston.

He leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Helena Alston; daughters, Megan Alston and Faren (Carlton) Wells; mother, Minnie Lee Alston; sister-in-law, Sandra Alston and nephew, Richard Alston, Jr.

A viewing will be held on Monday, August 15, 2022 from 10:00 a.m. to 12 noon at O. H. Smith & Son Funeral Home followed by the funeral at 12 noon.  Due to Covid 19 , masks are required.
