Gene Draughn was called home to be with the Lord on November 24, 2023.  He was born on July 2, 1947.  Gene was never married and didn't have any children.  He graduated from Carver High School in 1965.  Gene enlisted in the U. S. Army and served from 1969-1971 and received an Honorable Discharge. Gene was a member of Providence Baptist Church and sang in the choir.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Thelma Draughn; 5 brothers, Thurman, Willie Jr., Theodore, Russell and Abrey Draughn; 4 sisters, Magaline (Tynes), Mary, Queen (Sullivan) and Patricia (passed as a baby).

Gene is survived by his sister, Barba Ann Draughn (Crouse) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, December 6, 2023 at Providence Baptist Church, Newport News.  Viewing will be from 3-6 p.m. on Tuesday, December 5, 2023 at the funeral home and two hours prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.
