George C. Patterson of Newport News entered into eternal rest on July 10, 2022.  He was born on August 4, 1938 to late James and Sarah (Mosley) Patterson Sr.  George worked as a master bricklayer for over 60 years and retired longshoremen with International Longshoremen's Association (ILA) local 846 for 32 years. He was an honored, dedicated and active member of the Dochiki Civic and Social Club, Inc.

George was preceded by death by his parents James, Sarah and Monzora Patterson; brothers, James E. Patterson Sr., John A. Patterson; grandson, Aaron G. Bowman Jr.

He leaves to cherish his wife of 63 years, Mary C. Patterson; his children, Dahlena Patterson-Moore, Patricia Bowman (Aaron Sr.), George C. Patterson, Jr. of Newport News; 3 grandchildren, Artesha Adamson (Jamen), John R. Eley III and Philandas C. Moore; 5 great-grandchildren, Jarnae, Jada, Jayana Adamson, Aaron G. Bowman III and Ali Bowman; and a host of family and friends.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday July 16, 2022 at Macedonia Baptist Church, 5500 Marshall Avenue, Newport News, VA. Interment at Hampton Memorial Garden. Viewing will be from 3-6 p.m. on Friday, July 15, 2022 at O.H. Smith and Son Funeral Home and two hours prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
