Geraldine Hicks, 67, was born on March 27, 1951 and passed away on Monday, July 30, 2018.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Hicks, Sr.; mother, Bobbie Gatewood; father, Curtis Hill; stepfather, Jeremiah Gatewood, Jr.; sister, Wanda Scales; and brother, Jeremiah Gatewood III.

She retired from the Newport News Public School System. She leaves behind two stepchildren, Melvin Hicks, Jr. (Andrea) and Melba Hicks; nephew, Sean Bailey whom she raised as a son; 3 grandsons; 3 granddaughters; 8 sisters, Gloria Bazemore (Paul), Crystal Pope (Joe), Valerie Bryant (Tyrone), Bonita Gatewood (Kenny), Sandra Robinson (Hayes), Sherry Bailey (Joe), Alisa Elliott (Roy) and Yolanda Anderson (Clayton); 4 brothers, Tyrone Cherry, Elder Victor Gatewood (Gail), Kevin Gatewood and Damon Gatewood; 2 sisters-in-law, Theresa Bradley and Alice Watkins; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, August 4, 2018 at O. H. Smith & Son Funeral Home. Viewing will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Friday at the funeral home and from 9 a.m. until the hour of the service on Saturday. O. H. Smith & Son Funeral Home is honored to serve the family.
