Henry Pope, 80, went home to be with the Lord peacefully on March 21, 2018.  He was born to the late Aaron and Lizenia Lyons Pope. He retired from Newport News Shipyard after 37 years. He was a graduate of Huntington High School Class of 1957.  He was a member of First Baptist Church East End for over 60 years and served as president of the Senior Usher Board.  Voluntary services with Meals on Wheels and support of Heavenly Waters Youth Camp in Wakefield.

Henry joined in Holy matrimony his high school sweetheart and friend Queen Williams Pope (cof '58) on October 28, 1960.  From this union survives Reginald (Michelle) Pope and Kathy (Rev. Jeffrey) Belfield; granddaughter, Tarae' (Stevie) Peeden; grandsons, Jeffrey and Jared Belfield; great grands, Stevie, Jr. and Queen Peeden; one sister, Rozenia Pearson; sisters-in-law, Maggie Counts and Evelyn Williams; a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends; godmothers, Etta Jones and Elizabeth Knuckles; lifetime friends, Barbara Thomas Garrett, Butch Williams, Tiny Parker and Carl Phillips.  Special thanks to Arlene Northcutt, VOA Dr. Kessler & staff, Riverside Hospice Kaye Sheffie & Shanelle Ballah.  The family would like to thank their church families: First Baptist Church East End, New Life Church Hampton Inc. and New Chapel Baptist Church in Camp Springs, MD and numerous family and friends for their prayers, love and support that have been given to them.

Services will be at 11 a.m., Thursday, March 29, 2018 at First Baptist Church East End.  Interment will follow in Hampton Memorial Gardens.  Viewing will be from 1 to 6 p.m., Wednesday at the funeral home and two hours prior to the service at the church on Thursday.  O.
