Henry “Hank” Purcell, Jr., 86, of Hampton, Virginia passed away peacefully on May 20, 2026 at Riverside Regional Medical Center. Henry Purcell, Jr. was on March 20, 1940 in Maxton, North Carolina to Annie Pearl and Henry Purcell, Sr.

He attended Newsome Park Elementary School and graduated from G.W. Carver High School in 1958 with honors. Hank entered the U. S. Army and moved up through the ranks in the United States Army. Hank also served in the Vietnam War and received two Bronze Star Medals and other honors in the combat zone.

Hank attended Howard University. He graduated in 1973 with a Master’s Degree in Business.

Hank has three daughters, Rosalind Regina, Tracey Lynn and Nicole Michele Purcell; grandchildren, Lamont Jay, and Trey Donte’ Purcell, Jenae Smith, Azur’ee, De’Andree, Naquita and Jose Purcell; great grandchildren, Joseph Wade, Marcello, Kash Anderson, and De’Andree Purcell, Jr. and great-great granddaughter, Asia Wade. Hank has two remaining sisters, Valarie LaVerne and Marjorie Denise Purcell, a host of nieces, nephews as well as many cherished dear friends.

Hank became a faithful member of First Baptist Church Jefferson Park, Rev. Dr. Reginald C. Woodhouse, Pastor.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Riverside Regional Medical Center doctors and nurses in ICU and hospice unit for the care of their Beloved Dad, Henry “Hank " Purcell, Jr.

Graveside Rites with Military Honors will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 16, 2026 at Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery, 5310 Milners Road, Suffolk, VA. O. H. Smith & Son Funeral Home is honored to serve the family.
