Herbert Leroy Moore Jr. of Newport News, Va. was called home to be with the Lord on August 9, 2026. He was born to Herbert Leroy Moore Sr. and Willie Mae Moore on August 30, 1953 in Newport News, Va.

He was educated in Newport News Public Schools, where he graduated from Huntington High School in 1971. He worked for Newport News Shipbuilding in X32 as a sheet metalist for 49 years.

Herb was loved by many people. Everyone he came in contact with loved him. His smile and presence would light up a room.

He preceded in death by his mother, Willie Mae Moore, and sister JoAnn Moore.

He leaves to cherish his fiancé Barbara Duck, his father Herbert Leroy Moore Sr., his sister Annette Holmes, his brother Larry Moore, daughters LaTonya & LaToya Boyd, Vanika Duck, son Rayshaun Moore, best friend Rickey T, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, family and friends. 

Funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 19, 2026 at O. H. Smith & Son Funeral Home. Viewing will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Wednesday.
