Ivan Kermit Huggard, beloved father, grandfather, brother and uncle was called to rest on October 2, 2024. Born on January 29, 1951, to Daisy LaJeune and Willard M. Ellington, Sr., Ivan was 73 years old.

Ivan graduated from Huntington High School, Class of 1969 where he attended Anthony Barber College and received his license.  Ivan joined the United States Army out of High School and served in the band as a Musician Instrumentalist, playing the Saxophone. Upon honorable discharge he returned to his vocation, becoming a Master Barber and working at Nu Styles (formerly Nubian Designs) for 20 plus years.

Ivan was known to his family and close friends as a jokester;he loved to have fun and make people laugh. He enjoyed watching sports, especially football and basketball. His favorite team was the Dallas Cowboys. Ivan also enjoyed playing chess.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Daisy LaJeune, father, Willard M. Ellington, Sr., brother, Willard M. "Bill" Ellington, Jr. and former wives:  Maureen and Jacqueline Huggard.

Ivan is survived by three siblings Sheliah, Stephanie and James (Sonja) Ellington, sons Jason (Chante) Huggard and Thomas "TC" Harris, grandchildren Natia Jones, Tamarion, Amari, and Ava Huggard, a very special uncle and aunt, James (Frances) Huggard, Jr., his girlfriend, Stephanie Watson, many cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and a host of good friends.

Ivan was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.

A Memorial Service will be held at 12:00 p.m., Thursday, October 17, 2024 at Macedonia Baptist Church, 5500 Marshall Avenue, Newport News, VA.  O. H. Smith & Son Funeral Home is honored to serve the family.
