The son of the late Winston and Virginia Stokes, Jack Stokes was born on July 8, 1929, in Newport News, VA where he was a life long resident. He attended local public schools. Mr. Stokes was employed in the construction industry as a brick mason and later, in the shipping container industry as a longshoreman. He retired in 1995 after serving many years as a member of the International Longshoremen's Association. In 1991 this Association recognized him for his many years of outstanding service.
