Deacon James Barnes, 81, entered into eternal rest on July 28, 2020. He was born and raised in Lumberton, North Carolina and was reared by his grandparents Smith and Chole Barnes. Upon graduation from high school he moved to Newport News, Virginia.  Mr. Barnes met and married Ethel Mae Hunter and from this union five children were born.

Funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Wednesday, August 5, 2020 at Zion Baptist Church, 633 -20th Street, Newport News. Viewing will be from 3 to 6 p.m., Tuesday, August 4th, at O. H.
