NEWPORT NEWS - James McTurner Dickens, 77, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2017. He was born to James & Marie Dickens in Edgecombe County, NC and was known to all as "Buck."

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred W. Dickens; his parents, James & Marie; and his siblings, Dora Santos & Moses Dickens. Left to cherish his memory are his children, Sonya (Rodney), Carryl and Darryl; grandchildren, Rodney Jr., James and Leah; siblings, Mamie Gregory, Curtis, Rudolph, and Ray; nieces, nephews, a host of family and friends.

A celebration of his life will be held 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 4, 2017 at Providence Baptist Church in Newport News. Interment will follow at Hampton Memorial Gardens. Viewing will be from 1 to 6 p.m. Friday at the funeral home and from 9 a.m. to the hour of the service at church Saturday. O. H. Smith & Son Funeral Home is honored to serve the family.
