James Grey, Jr., affectionately known as "Cosmo" and "Jimmy," beloved husband of Sandra Grey and two sons, suddenly passed into eternal sleep on May 21, 2019. He was the son of James Grey, Sr. and Anne Mae Brown. He was born March 21, 1943.

James was a graduate of Huntington High School in Newport News, the Class of 1961, where he was a star athlete in basketball and track. Upon graduation, James attended Kentucky State College on a track scholarship.

He relocated to New York City, where he met then married his wife Sandra in 1973. In New York City, James was first employed by the United States Post Office. He then pursued a career in law enforcement as a Police Officer until his retirement. James returned to Hampton Roads in 1990. He worked for the Newport News and Hampton School Systems as a Security Officer before retiring.

A Memorial Service will be held 1 p.m., Saturday, June 1, 2019 at Ivy Baptist Church, 50 Maple Ave., Newport News.  O. H. Smith & Son Funeral Home is honored to serve the family.
