James C. Hayspell, 71, of Hampton, VA, husband of Brenda Hayspell, departed this life peacefully on Sunday, July 12, 2020 at Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News, VA.

He was born December 30, 1948 to the late James E. and Sardis Walker Hayspell. He was also preceded in death by his two brothers, Rondell Hayspell and Alvin Wayne Hayspell.

On January 8, 1972, James married Brenda, his high school sweetheart and best, best friend through thick and thin.

James retired from Newport News Redevelopment and Housing Authority after 27 years of dedicated service. He was also a very faithful and committed Deacon of Providence Baptist Church in Newport News, VA., serving in various capacities and helping where ever he was needed.

James is survived by his devoted wife, Brenda; sister, Constance Peebles of Brodnax, VA; mother-in-law, Margaret McCain; sisters-in-law, Daisy Hayspell, Cynthia Wartman (Rev. Benjamin) and Jacqueline McCain; brother-in-law, Calvin McCain; aunts, Marie Hayspell, Frances Headspeth-Newell, Dorothy Headspeth and Shirley Walker; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Viewing will be held on Friday, July 17, 2020 from 3:00 to 6:00 PM at O.H. Smith & Son Funeral Home.  A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, July 18, 2020 at Mt. Hermon Baptist Church Cemetery in Brodnax, VA, with Dr. Corey L. Brown of Providence Baptist Church, officiating.
