Obituary

Mr. James Thomas Scott passed away peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday, December 27, 2023, at his residence in Newport News, VA.

James was born on October 19, 1963, to the late Mariemilie Scott in Newport News, VA. He was educated in the Newport News Public School System. He attended Virginia Military Institute and later graduated from Christopher Newport University with a B.A. in Political Science. He then went on to receive his master's degree in public administration from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA.

James started his career with the Office of Human Affairs in Newport News where he was employed there for 15 years. James made the decision to change his career path and then became employed with Door Engineering Inc. and remained employed with the company until his death.

James was an avid reader with a large library of books, and he also had an enormous collection of Comic Books.

James leaves to cherish his memories: his brother Eric L. Scott; four aunts, Margaret M. Stamps, Miriam V. Miles, Allison Riddick, Kim C. Hales (Walter); one uncle, Norris Berkeley Clark III; two nephews, Eric Heckstall, Kellen Scott; two nieces, Kelli Scott Taylor, Tempestt Scott; six great nieces, Sania, Camryn, Tiana, Somaya, Isabella, Ariana; four great nephews, Isaiah, Eric Jr, Kyrie and Isaiah and a host of relatives and friends.

James will be missed and will remain in our hearts.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, January 5, 2024 at O. H. Smith & Son Funeral Home.  Viewing will be from 3-6 p.m. on Thursday, January 4, 2023 at the funeral home and from 9 a.m. until the hour of the service at the church on Friday.  O. H. Smith & Son Funeral Home is honored to serve the family.
