Janie Truitt-King born February 26, 1943 of Newport News, Virginia, entered into peaceful eternal rest on August 16, 2026. A retired York County educator and administrator, Janie devoted close to 40 years to serving students and her community. She was an active member of First Baptist Church Jefferson Park for over four decades.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James King, Sr. and son Jerry Small, III. She is now at rest with her parents Weldon and Marie Truitt, her four siblings Katie, Charles, Weldon, and Walter. She is survived by her brother Willie Truitt.

She leaves a legacy of love and beautiful memories with her daughter Jerre' (Chris), her step-daughter Janet, Jon (Ernestine), and James Jr. (Jessi) , eleven grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, and the entire King-Mitchell Family.

The public viewing will be Friday, September 18th from 3:00-6:00 PM at the O. H. Smith and Son Funeral Home.

The funeral will take place at First Baptist Church Jefferson Park 11:00 AM Saturday, September 19th, 615 42nd Street Newport News, VA 23607.

The Interment will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, September 19th at the Hampton Memorial Gardens. O. H. Smith & Son Funeral Home is honored to serve the family.
