Jessie Lee Coleman

May 11,1952 - January 21,2026

On Wednesday, January 21, 2026,  God called home one of his most prized possessions. Jessie Lee Coleman "Munk" as he was so affectionately known was born in Waverly Virginia, on May 11, 1952. Jessie was the 3rd child born to the late Arthur Coleman and Hattie Coleman Gwaltney. He fought until the very end and lived life on his own terms.

If it was a good day, Munk was outside "getting through the neighborhood" as he would say & hanging out with his long time friends. After retirement his plan was to go fishing, that was a pastime that he loved especially in his younger days. He was always the life of any party and there was never a dull moment surrounding him. Munk loved smiling, laughing, dancing & having a good time.  You would often find him, his sisters and brother hanging out with each other.  You could find him playing Solitaire alot when he got older. He was always into Fashion & he had his own unique style. He really enjoyed watching his football games, westerns and crime shows on television. He had a heart of gold, never selfish and always willing to help anybody out.

Jessie was a graduate of Sussex Central High School Class of 1970. He worked at Masonite in Waverly Virginia from 1970-1972.  He then went on to work at the shipyard for 43 years before retiring in 2015.

Preceded in death by his parents, 3 sisters Laverne Crenshaw , Jacqueline "Mickey " Coleman Taylor, Lorraine "Stuff" Ricks and his youngest brother, Terry Coleman..

Jessie leaves to cherish his memory: his devoted and only daughter, Yomashei Coleman of Newport News, Virginia and only son, Jamar Coleman (Tonya) of Chesapeake Virginia.

His grandchildren, Sade "Mook" Deloatch, Yasine "Biggie" Ketchmore, Deomashei "Mamatell" Richardson, Jamari Coleman, Jakori Coleman, Camari Coleman, Deon "Dj" Richardson &  Amir (Peanut) Coleman.. great grandchildren; London Jones, Aeva Ketchmore & Alaura Ketchmore, all of Newport News, Virginia.

Siblings, Arthur Coleman (Dorothy) of Richmond, Virginia, Deloyce Bailey (Ralph) of Chesterfield, Virginia, Doris Hamlin of Waverly, Virginia, Marvin Coleman (Delphi) of Chesterfield, Virginia, Mary Ann Coleman of Richmond, Virginia and Sean Anthony Coleman of Columbia, South Carolina.  Brother in love, Pastor Bobby Ricks of Disputata,Virginia, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins  &  friends.

A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 4, 2026 at O. H. Smith & Son Funeral Home, 3009 Chestnut Avenue, Newport News, VA 23607. O. H. Smith & Son Funeral Home is honored to serve the family.
